The youngest and least experienced of Korea’s feared trio, Lee Sung Jin is making her Olympic debut in Athens. The 19-year-old proved her class by winning her way to the Games through her nation’s very tough Olympic qualifying tournaments. She will be the least well known of an outstanding Korean women’s team, who will enter the Games having won every team gold medal since the event was added to the program in 1988. Lee’s only international appearance this year was at the German Grand Prix in Whyl in June. She placed sixth in the individual event and joined her Olympic team-mates Park Sung Hyun and Yun Mi Jin in winning the team event. Lee competes for the Chonbuk Provincial Government, the same club team as Park. Expect her to be a surprise star in Athens. 10.08.2004 / T.Cranley |
