Host Nation Happiness

Entering Athens, archery is hoping to maintain one of the Olympic Games’ most surprising streaks: host nations of the past six Games (back to 1980) have won at least won archery gold medal. More, three of those countries, the former Soviet Union, Spain and Australia, have not won an archery gold medal at any other Games than their own. It’s a record unrivalled by the other 27 sports – the best host nation gold medal streak by another sport is three. Hence, all eyes are on Greece, especially their excellent women’s competitor Evangelia Psarra.
