Surprise Stars

Archery has always enjoyed excellent representation and competition from across the continents, with 132 member associations affiliated with the International Archery Federation (FITA). A pleasing sign of the strength of the sport is the emergence of new nations achieving excellent results. The most recent example is India, which enjoyed an outstanding 2003 world championships. The Asian nation qualified a full quota of three men and three women for Athens through the team events at the world championships. The only other nations to achieve this were established archery powers Korea and Ukraine. Smaller nations such as Bhutan also enjoy an outstanding history of archery participation at the Olympics. Archery is a very popular traditional sport in Bhutan.
