Ranking Round at Dekelia on Thursday

The archery competition will already start tomorrow, Thursday 12 August, with the Ranking Round being held at Dekelia Training Field. The Women's Individual session will take place from 8:30 to 12:00, whereas the Men will be shooting from 15:30 to 19:00.

No archer will be eliminated after this round. The Ranking Round is the first phase of the Olympic archery competition and determines the ranking of the archers entering the Olympic Round (second phase) in both the individual and team events.

Each archer shoots 72 arrows at the target during this round. This consists of 12 ends of 6 arrows each, with a time limit of four minutes per end.

Based on their scores from the Ranking Round, the archers are ranked from 1 to 64 for the individual event. This first phase of competition is really important for the archers, as it will determine the matchplay chart (who will be shooting against whom) for the rest of the competition.

In the Ranking Round, the criteria for deciding ties are, in order: most scoring hits, most 10s, and most X10s.

As for the Team events, the teams are also ranked according to the scores of the Ranking Round. The rankings are based on the combined total of a team's three archers.
