Two World Records for Korea's Women

The Korean archers have been really impressive in the Ranking Round of the Women’s archery competition at the Dekelia Airforce Base today, breaking two world records and finishing first, second and third.

Park Sung Hyun set a new World Record for the Women’s Individual 72-arrow Ranking Round, scoring 682 points to beat by three points the previous best set by the Italian Natalia Valeeva in May this year.

On the other hand, the combined 216-arrow score of the three Korean ladies, Park Sung Hyun, Lee Sung Jin and Yun Mi Jin, smashed the previous record: 2030, this is 36 points higher than the Korean team had managed to set on its way to win the gold medal at the Sydney Olympics four years ago.

The Asian archers, with Korea, China and Chinese Taipei, dominated the standings, reaching the top six places in the Individual competition and the top three places in the Team event.

The pregnant German archer Cornelia Pfohl performed well finishing 18th after this Ranking Round, while Evangelia Psarra, the strongest archery hope for Greece, took an excellent 8th position.

It is to be noted that the Ranking Round provides the seedings for the Individual and Team competitions and none of the 64 archers have been eliminated today.
