Archers not satisfied with their scores

Most of the archers shooting in today’s morning session did not succeed in managing the windy conditions in the Panathinaiko Stadium. Chen Szu Yuan from the Chinese Taipei, who ranked 10th in the Ranking Round last week, said "the main problem was that the wind was coming from different directions and I had to keep adjusting my aim. At the same time, I think the wind is an advantage as it helps show who the better archer is. Of course, you also need a bit of luck." Chen Szu Yuan beat Luxemburger Jeff Henckels 136-132.

"I am not satisfied with my score, I made 154 and my personal best is 169. I hope that we will not have problems with the wind in the next round", Ukrainian Dmytro Hrachov after his victory over Egyptian Maged Youssef.

Young Australian David Barnes was for his part prematurely kicked out of the Men’s competition. He lost his 1/32 match 160-151 against Jonas Andersson from Sweden. "I am really pleased, it was an important win in a difficult match", said the latter after his victory.

The second Swedish in competition this morning, Magnus Petersson (ranked 2nd), made a step further with a serene victory against invited archer Thiamphasone Phoutlamphay from Laos. The score was 158 to 95.

In a tight 1/32 match, British Laurence Godfrey eventually won 157-155 at the expense of Turkey’s Hasan Orbay. For his part, outsider Viktor Ruban from Ukraine beat Canadian Jonathan Ohayon on the wide score of 157 to 140. "The strong wind made things more difficult", Ruban said. On his goal for the Olympic tournament, he added: "My best score is 174 and I hope to win a medal in these Olympic Games."
