Dramatic outcome in first Women’s quarterfinal

The 1/4 finals of the Women’s Individual competition began with upsets in the match of British Alison Williamson and Chinese He Ying. The controversy occurred after eight arrows, when He Ying was deemed to have fired an arrow out of turn. She was thus credited no points for this arrow, and as her coach argued with the Judge, He missed the 40-second time limit to shoot her next arrow and was awarded another zero.

As a result, the sole Chinese archer remaining at this stage of the competition had no chance left to beat her opponent, Williamson winning the match on the comfortable score of 109-89. "I am very happy with my qualification, but I can say that I didn’t enjoy the match because of the circumstances of my victory", she commented.
