Korea proves too strong for Greece

"It is very important that we qualified for the quarterfinals and all these people came here to watch us and learn a little bit about archery", were Psarra’s words this morning in the archery event. In the Team’s 1/8 finals at Panathinaiko, Greece came out victorious of their match with the American team.

In an expected tight match between eighth and ninth ranked teams, the Greek ladies were brought to victory by their fans who had built up in the ancient stadium this morning. "The crowd encouraged us and I want to thank them", said Fotini Vavatsi. Greece finally beat USA 230-227.

Their ranking of the host country team in the Ranking Round last week unfortunately led them to be in the same part of the match play chart with Korea and they were to face the reigning Olympic champions in the next round (1/4 final). After a close start (78-82 after 9 arrows), the Greeks logically had to acknowledge defeat 244 to 233. "We knew from the start of the match that we had to compete against a very strong team and we wanted to do the best we could", said Greek leader after her team’s elimination.
